My All-in-One C-Stand Setup for Content Creators

When it comes to creating professional talking head videos or overhead top-down shots, having a reliable, mobile setup makes all the difference. Today, I’m breaking down my all-in-one self-powered C-stand setup that I use daily for YouTube and client work. It’s flexible, dependable, and keeps my workflow simple.


Why This Setup Works

This rig is built around mobility and power. You’re not tied to one spot—you can roll it around the room, keep your gear powered, and be ready to shoot at any time. Once it’s set up, it’s basically plug and play. Flip the switch, everything powers up, and you’re ready to record.


The Core Gear

1. Super Clamps & Extension Arms

I start with a super clamp and a 6-inch extension arm. These clamps are rock solid—once tightened, your camera isn’t going anywhere.

2. Ball Head Mount

Next, I add a ball head mount. I keep a few of these in rotation. They’re versatile, secure, and perfect for locking in your camera angle.

3. Camera & Cooling System

For my main camera, I use the Sony A7IV. Yes, it used to overheat, but pairing it with the Ulanzi Cooling Fan completely solved that problem. With the cooler connected via USB-C, overheating is no longer an issue.

4. Power Source: V-Mount Battery

I power everything with a 222-watt V-mount battery. It’s compact, affordable (around $103), and reliable. With dual USBs and DTAPs, it easily powers my camera, cooler, and accessories. A dummy battery connects directly into the camera for continuous power.



Building the Overhead Rig

For overhead or top-down shots (great for tutorials or product reviews), I add a boom arm to the C-stand.

  • Another ball head mount secures my Sony FX30, which I use strictly for overhead angles.

  • I use swivel mount umbrella holders to keep everything stable.

  • A second dummy battery and V-mount battery keep the FX30 powered without interruptions.

This combo gives me a professional, top-down look that’s perfect for unboxings, tutorials, or B-roll.


Lens of Choice

My go-to lens is the Tamron 28-75mm. It’s versatile, sharp, and never lets me down. Perfect for talking head shots and overhead work.


Why I Avoid Desk Mounts

I know a lot of creators use desk-mounted arms and rigs. While those setups look neat, I’m not a fan. When your gear is attached to your desk, every movement causes vibrations. If you’re expressive like me, your video will pick up those shakes.

By keeping everything mounted to a stand off the desk, you get smoother, more professional footage with zero wobble.


Final Thoughts

This all-in-one C-stand setup changed my workflow. With everything pre-mounted, powered, and ready to roll, I can walk into the office, hit the switches, and start recording. No wasted time setting up or breaking down gear.

The jib/boom arm adds flexibility for overhead shots, and the wheels on the stand make it easy to reposition. Honestly, this setup is a game-changer for content creators who want speed and consistency without sacrificing quality.
